  Abnormal Bleeding

“I don’t think this is normal”

When in doubt, call us.

If you have bleeding from the vagina occurring – either at the wrong time during the month or in inappropriate amounts, you need to see the Doctor.

In order to determine whether bleeding is abnormal and its cause, Dr. Chick will ask you the details of your menstrual history.

Women who are postmenopausal should not experience vaginal bleeding. Any vaginal bleeding is considered abnormal in postmenopausal women. Women who are taking HRT (hormone therapy) may experience some light, irregular vaginal bleeding during the first (6) months of treatment. Likewise, women who are taking a cyclic hormone regimen may experience some bleeding that’s similar to a period for a few days each month.

Any woman with unexpected vaginal bleeding should call us regardless to rule out more serious causes.

“How is irregular vaginal bleeding treated?”

Treatment depends on the underlying cause. After the cause is determine, Dr Chick decides if treatment is actually necessary. Sometimes, all that’s needed is for dangerous causes to be ruled out and to determine that the irregular bleeding doesn’t bother the woman enough to  warrant medication or treatment.
